Matco Tools Summer Showdown (NHRA LODRS) a Marathon

Mother Nature tried but could not stop the running of the Matco Tools Summer Showdown this past weekend at Cordova Dragway Park. After seven hours of rain on Friday; time trials and qualifying finally got underway about 6 PM. However, it was cut short because of a heavy fog that blanketed the area. On Saturday, the action went non-stop with two rounds of qualifying and time trials followed by the elimination rounds in eleven NHRA Categories. "Rob Park the NHRA Director made the correct decision to get the race done on Saturday as we had on and off rain showers throughout the day on Sunday" said Track Operator Scott Gardner.

"We are ecstatic with the turnout of NHRA racers making this event one of the biggest Lucas Oil Drag Racing stops in the Country" continued Gardner. The 2009 event saw an increase of more than 20% in both racers and spectators. The celebrations began late in the evening and lasted well into the morning hours.
