Nitro Classes Headline at Cordova Nostalgiafest on June 25-26

The DragRacingOnline.com AA/FC Challenge presented by Lucas Oil for nitro-burning Funny Cars will be at Cordova Dragway Park for the annual Nostalgiafest on June 25-26. It is the second event of the 2010 five-race series that will determine the AA/FC class’s national champion.

The AA/FC cars are capable of speeds over 260 mph and elapsed times in the mid five-second range down the quarter mile. These cars burn anywhere from 80% to 100% nitromethane, and have to bee seen

This year, with a points program funded by Lucas Oil, the series has attracted cars from all over the U.S. from Pennsylvania to California. In fact, for the first time in many years three AA Funny Cars from the West Coast will take on a contingent of Midwest cars.

Coming from California are Gary Turner’s “Pedaler” ’77 Plymouth Arrow, Bob Godfrey’s “ Burn’n Money ’69 Camaro and Brad Faria’s “Secret Weapon” ’77 Corvette.  The Midwest cars are led by Paul Romine and his ’79 Mustang  “Man O’ War” from Indianapolis, Shawn Bowen’s “Violator” ’77 Pontiac Firebird from Wisconsin and Danny Miller’s’70 Ford Maverick from Missouri.

Romine, a veteran driver and team owner, is a three-time IHRA World Champion in Top Fuel and the defending champion of the DragRacingOnline.com AA/FC Challenge presented by Lucas Oil. Gary Turner’s “Pedaler” with driver Kris Krabell went to the finals at this race last year when the race was suspended because of rain, and are coming back determined to make the winner’s circle this year.

Romine currently hold the Series records for Elapsed Time at 5.83 seconds and for Speed at 248 mph. He ran over 253 mph earlier this year at the famed “March Meet” in Bakersfield, CA.

In addition to the AA/FC show this race will also feature nitro-burning AA Fuel Altereds and a Top Fuel match race. In addition the Midwest Super Stockers will bring 35-40 of those wheelstanding, bumper-dragging door cars.
