CDP "WEATHERED" THE STORM AND TIMING WAS REPAIRED IN "TIME"

When Mother Nature decided to be nasty on Labor Day Monday, September 6, Cordova Dragway Park management had no idea that she would alter the balance of the work week and weekend plans. "It appeared lightning hit a transformer and arced into the right lane scoreboard and then traveled throughout the race track wiring including the starting line and into the other scoreboard" said Scott Gardner. "I immediately enlisted the services of FSS Electronics, Compulink Timing Systems and ultimately Bos Electronics to get us back into operation" continued Gardner.

New wire was pulled and literally hundreds of connections were re-secured including the tower functions and scoreboards. "The expertise required to reassemble this system is astonishing and I'm sure their are very few companies and technicians that could complete the task especially in such a narrow time frame," Gardner explained.

New electronic components were shipped from Bandimere Speedway and Route 66 Raceway as the starting line infra-reds took a direct hit and all the pin connectors for the system were burned. At 4 PM Saturday, the final touches were put on the system that regained the last obstacles of the scoreboards and the 60' timers.

Cordova Dragway Park extends thanks to everyone who helped out in getting us back into operation especially JJ Koehler of FSS who is a good friend and track sponsor as well.

Gardner estimates the total loss from the storm at approximately $10,000.
