CORDOVA DRAGWAY PARK WELCOMES BACK NHRA RACERS FOR THE SUMMER SHOWDOWN

NHRA CORDOVA, Il. – The Summer Showdown presented by Matco Tools will once again be hosted by Cordova Dragway Park on August 12-13, 2011. The event is one of six in the NHRA West Central division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $560,000. The division’s Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series, West Central Division Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Cordova Dragway Park open at 7 a.m. both days. Qualifying and time trials start Friday morning at 10 a.m. and continue Saturday at 8 a.m. Eliminations will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. Comp Eliminator, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will have two qualifying sessions on Friday, at 4 and 6:30 p.m., and one on Saturday, at 11 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will qualify at 5 and 8 p.m. Friday and at noon on Saturday. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round of eliminations Saturday at 5 p.m.

Tickets for the Summer Showdown presented by Matco Tools at Cordova Dragway Park are $20 Friday and $25 Saturday. Children 6 to 12 years old are $5 each day and children 5 and under are admitted free. The track will also be hosting a test-n-tune session on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 3-7 p.m. Tickets on Thursday are $10 for adults and $3 for Children.
