"HUNTING FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP" AWARDS BANQUET SATURDAY, FEB 4

Just a reminder that the deadline for making reservations for the Cordova Dragway Park Championship Awards Banquet is this Monday, January 30. The Banquet theme is "Hunting for a Championship" and will be held on Saturday, February 4. 2012 at Gil's Ballroom in Clinton, IA.

MANY HIGHLIGHTS ON 2012 CORDOVA EVENTS SCHEDULE

The 2012 Cordova Dragway Park schedule of events has several new events and attractions planned. Highlights include a new event; Door Warz on Saturday, June 16. The event will include the Cordova Dragway Park debut of the True 10.5" Street Car Challenge, Midwest Super Stock Mafia, Nostalgia Gassers Racers Association, Ozark Mountain Super Shifters, a Jet Pick-up truck and more. Additional special feature cars and more information will be forthcoming. Next up on Saturday June 23 is another new event; The Mobile Wiring Fast 6 Show that will include a huge car show (300 entries expected), test-n-tune/gamblers races and live music.

On Saturday and Sunday, July 14-15 will be the return of the Top Dollar Racing $10K Race. "This is one of the richest bracket racing events in the country, mentioned Scott Gardner, the Jones family sponsors this race and really have a lot to offer" he continued.

August will continue to be a busy month with the return of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Event (Thurs-Sat, August 9-11) that is pegged the Matco Tools Summer Showdown. Cordova Dragway Park has been selected as regional event that will include the powerful supercharged funny cars and nitro injected dragsters. Only two weeks later, August 24-26 is the 59th Annual O'Reilly Auto Parts World Series of Drag Racingwith the return of several NHRA superstars, the Extreme Machine Jet Semi and much more.

In addition to the new and major events throughout the season the schedule includes the return of the Rev Hard Midnight Mayhem Series, Points Bracket races, High School events, the OktoberFest of Drag Racing and much more.

A brand new feature at Cordova Dragway Park that will begin at select events in June is "Hot Summer Nights." At various events live music will be featured under the Jenny Koehler Pavilion. For example at select bracket events, live music will be from 10 PM - 1 AM. In addition the brand new Zoomies Pub will be open. "We putting added value into select events throughout the season that should be fun and relaxing for everyone" said Gardner.

2012 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS TO BE RELEASED FRIDAY, JANUARY 20

The 2012 pre-season schedule of events will be released on Friday, January 20, 2012. While the information posted is accurate at this time please keep in mind that a few changes could take place before a final schedule is released in March. "We try to give everyone a heads-up on events as early as we can, mentioned Scott Gardner, but at this early date certainly events can be added or changed"

Mark Your Calendars for this Special Winter Television Treat on the Speed Network

The 2011 World Fuel Altered Nationals from Eddyville Raceway Park, Oskaloosa, Iowa will premier at 5 PM (CST) on Saturday, February 11, 2012 on Speed Network on the "Lucas Oil .. On the Edge" program.

"We are very excited to have this great event from one of the nicest race tracks in the country aired on national television" said Scott Gardner. "The racing was fantastic at the event and I can only imagine some of the video that was obtained of the unruly action of the nitro fuel altereds" he continued.

The 2012 World Fuel Altered Nationals is scheduled for August 17-18, please plan to see the action live.

IN-SPITE OF COLD AND WINDY CONDITIONS; HANGOVERFEST WAS A BALL

Although the weather was not very nice with cold and windy conditions the racing was hot at the 11th Annual HangoverFest on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Cordova Dragway Park. Nearly 150 entries were taken for racing (including a motorcycle and a convertible Mustang with the top down) as racing had to be limited to 1/8 mile as winds caused havoc on the timing system.

In addition several hundred hard core fans welcomed 2012 attending the HangoverFest Event. Thankfully the Interstate Batteries Cafe was very warm as we had available homemade food specials as well. HangoverFest was the opening of the new Zoomies Pub that become a popular spot to keep warm and enjoy stories with friends.

With a changing forecast nearly be the hour, plans are still in place for the 11th Annual HangoverFest on Sunday, January 1st. "We will go on almost regardless of the weather (with the exception of rain/snow), said Scott Gardner, this is winter in the Midwest and really what we have always expected" he continued.

If for some reason conditions will not allow for racing on Sunday the "live update" section of the website will updated by 9 AM in addition to the phone system at the track.

Don't forget the heated Interstate Batteries Cafe will be open with several homemade food specials along with the grand opening of the Zoomies Pub. Plus the HangoverFest is always an opportunity to get on TV as several area news channels are expected to be in attendance.

Cordova Dragway Becomes Winter Wonderland of Racing

This Sunday, January 1, 2012 (New Year’s Day) is when Cordova Dragway Park transforms into a Winter Wonderland of Racing. “We began doing the New Year’s race more than 10 years ago and have only had to cancel a couple of events do to weather and thankfully everything looks positive for this year’s event with temperatures near 40 degrees” said Track Operator Scott Gardner.

Gates Open at 10 AM with open racing for everyone. “This event is designed to bring out your car, motorcycle or truck and race it down the famed quarter-mile drag strip” mentioned Gardner. “We encourage everyone to come on out a try drag racing; they will love it”

Racing gets underway at 11 AM and will go into the mid-afternoon.  In addition to racing, the heated Interstate Batteries Café will be open with great food specials along with the debut of “Zoomies Pub.” For those not racing there will also be $1 Bloody Mary’s and for those who might have had a long New Years Eve there will also be free aspirin at the gate. The first 250 fans or racers will also get Cordova Dragway Park HangoverFest Stadium Cup.
